Resveratrol Side Effects
Resveratrol
is a plant chemical found in grapes and peanuts. This
chemical is what gives red wine its beneficial effect and is believed
to be the cause of the French paradox. The French paradox is the fact
that French people tend to live longer lives despite the fact that they
as a people eat a high fat diet. A pill has been developed that
concentrates Resveratrol to about 1000 times the potency of what is
found in grapes or red wine. This has become somewhat controversial
because no one really knows the side effects these massive doses will
have on humans.
What Are Resveratrol Side Effects?
All drugs and
herbal supplements have side effects for those taking
them. These side effects can be different for different people and in
some cases will be significant and in other cases barely noticeable, if
at all. In the case of Resveratrol no side effects have been reported
in the scientific literature. But since there have been no long term
studies of Resveratrol with humans the question of side effects remains
unanswered.. There have been animal studies and the findings are all
positive.
Resveratrol
Side Effects: What You Should Know
People using
resveratrol have reported side effects, but this anecdotal
evidence must be confirmed by scientific studies before definite
conclusions can be made.
The resveratrol side
effects
reported include:
•
Tendinitis pain;
• Arthritic joint pain;
• Stomach pain & diarrhea
• Numbness in the extremities;
• Caffeine like high;
• Decreased appetite.
Each of these
could have been caused by something other than the
resveratrol. Furthermore none of these could be said to be significant
side effects and the last two could even be considered to be positive
side effects (enhancing alertness and helping with weight loss). It is
believed by many doctors and scientists that resveratrol is safe and
beneficial to humans but no one can say with absolute certainty until
scientific studies involving humans have been completed.
